Custom Rifle Terms & Conditions
1. Custom Build Nature
All custom rifle builds are made-to-order and built to customer specifications. Once a build is approved and parts are ordered or work has begun, changes may not be possible and may result in additional cost and/or extended lead time.
2. Deposit & Payment
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to initiate any custom rifle build. The deposit covers consultation time, parts sourcing, machining setup, and labor. The remaining balance must be paid prior to delivery or transfer of the completed rifle unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. Deposits are non-refundable once work has begun due to the custom nature of the build.
3. Build Timeline
Standard full custom rifle build time is up to 150 days (approximately 20 weeks) from the time the deposit is received and all build details are finalized. All lead times are estimates, not guarantees. Delays may occur due to parts availability, supplier lead times, machining schedules, testing requirements, or unforeseen circumstances. SMA will communicate any significant changes to timelines as they arise.
4. Accuracy Guarantee
SMA guarantees a three-shot ½ MOA group at 100 yards using quality factory ammunition. Accuracy testing is performed using ammunition selected by SMA under controlled conditions. Accuracy results may vary due to environmental conditions, shooter input, ammunition variation, and maintenance, which are outside SMA’s control. This guarantee applies to three-shot groups only unless otherwise specified in writing.
5. Ammunition
SMA may recommend specific factory ammunition based on in-house testing. Accuracy is not guaranteed with ammunition outside of what was tested or recommended. Handloaded ammunition is used at the customer’s own discretion and is not covered under the accuracy guarantee.
6. Customer-Supplied Components
SMA is not responsible for performance, compatibility, or reliability issues related to customer-supplied components, including but not limited to optics, mounts, suppressors, accessories, or ammunition. Existing CDS dials, turret calibrations, or prior scope setups are not guaranteed to align with a new rifle build unless reverified or replaced.
7. Testing & Final Approval
SMA will not release a rifle until it meets functional, safety, and performance standards appropriate for the build. Final testing may include multiple range sessions, cold-bore verification, and function testing as deemed necessary by SMA. Testing methods and ammunition selection are at the discretion of SMA.
8. Warranty
SMA provides a lifetime warranty on workmanship and assembly. This warranty does not cover third-party parts or components, which are subject to the original manufacturer’s warranty. Warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, neglect, improper maintenance, unauthorized modifications, or use of improper ammunition.
9. Returns, Refunds & Resolution
Due to the custom nature of our rifle builds, all returns and refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Deposits remain non-refundable once work has begun or parts have been ordered. If issues arise, SMA will work with the customer to determine an appropriate resolution, which may include additional gunsmithing, component replacement or modification, re-testing, or partial credit toward labor or future services. Parts ordered specifically for a build may not be returnable and are subject to manufacturer policies. If a build cannot reasonably meet agreed performance standards, available options will be discussed openly to reach a fair resolution.
10. Legal Compliance & Transfer
All firearm transfers must comply with federal, state, and local laws. The customer is responsible for ensuring legal eligibility to purchase and possess the firearm. Delays related to background checks, FFL transfers, or legal requirements are not the responsibility of SMA.
11. Acceptance
Approval of this quote, submission of a deposit, or authorization to begin work constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions in full.
12. Payment Processing Fees
All credit and debit card transactions are subject to a 3% processing fee. Customers may avoid this fee by paying via cash, check, or approved electronic transfer, when available.
